Jugglers,
The following information concerns the record list in which I am
compiling. If you would like to include your records in this list (sent
in another posting) you must belong to a juggling club, have access to
this a network in which you can mail your records from, and provide the
information in which I request. Detailed information follows
for the new people reding rec.juggling.
First of all I would like to clarify what
records I am intersted in. I already know that there are people like
Gatto, Ignatov, Lucus, and others out there that have world records. Although
many people who read this list are good, it is doubtfull that any could compete
with these professionals. Therefore, I would like to compile a list
of records that come from juggling clubs directly associated with this list.
I am not interested in records that have been listed
in Jugglers World, or are collected by the IJA. I am especially not
interested in records collected by Guiness. The whole idea of this project
is for individuals somehow connected to this newsgroup to see how they
compare with others in similar situations. This record book will exist just
for us.
These records should be compiled for the club
in which you belong and shouldn't contain your personal bests.
As a general rule, records can only be set on normal club meetings. That way,
someone who never misses a meeting will always have a chance to protect
their records. It would be no fun to find that Fred sat at home one weekend
and broke you 3 ball endurance record when you didn't have a chance to
compete with him or even see him break it.
Of the records submitted, some of them have been in this form:
5 ball cascade Jo Blo over 10 minutes
This is incredibly uninformitive and for many situations will not do.
This format makes one wonder what type of recording was done if any.
Rather, I am interested in records such as:
4 ball in right hand Jill Hill 1/21/91 01:12
This information leaves no doubt as to what condition the records are
in and how accurate they are.
As for the type of the record keeping you do at your club, the first rule is
to be organized. Following is the record sheet which our club uses.
Print it out, copy it and put them in some sort of bound folder. Consider
this your ticket to record breaking hall of fame.

Here are some more comments for those people involved
in clubs that want to get their names in the record list.
First of all, don't be discouraged. You probably never realized how
long a minute was until you tried to break a record. Try breaking a
record a couple of times and if you don't succeed,
rest and try again later. When I decide that I want to try to
break a record, the first thing I do is to decide on how many tries I'm
going to give myself to complete the task. This keeps me from getting
frustrated if I can't break a record that day.
Usually I'll decide on anywhere from 2 to 10 tries
depending on the trick. If I don't do it then I'll either try a different
record or do something completely different.
Record all of the records set in your club. Each club should have their
typical records like the 3 ball cascade even though it isn't enough to
get into this record list. Remember that this list is a compilation
of all the records from all different clubs. Comparing our 3 ball record
of 10 minutes to the network record list proves this point. Even though
our record doesn't compare to Dan Johnsons 2 hours and 1 minute it is still
significant. Our 10 minutes is respectable since even the better jugglers
don't want to try for fear of getting 9 minutes and dropping.
I have said this before but I want everyone to understand
it so I'll mention it again. All the records should be set at normal
club meetings. The records should be recorded with lots of information
as given in the record sheet posting. Records set in your
club that didn't beat the records in my list should be recorded for your club
anyway.
So.... Send me your records. Please mail them to djward@chico.uccs.edu
not djward!chico cause it goes somewhere else.
The latest record list (version 6) has been posted with this.
